Clara was born and raised in Meghalaya. She was adventurous by nature — she travelled the world, saw what it had to offer, and carried the Northeast with her everywhere she went. Not as nostalgia. As a standard.
She was the epitome of warmth — hospitable in every sense of the word. Not as a performance, not as a profession. As a way of being. As something she had absorbed from this land and offered, without calculation, to everyone who came close.
Clara Tours carries her name. Bonnie's Hotel carries her husband's. Everything we build tries to carry their spirit — the warmth, the welcome, the belief that every person who walks through your door deserves to leave feeling full.
"I think of every traveller who has walked these hills as someone my mother would have fed. Would have sat with. Would have sent away full."
She reads every message herself. She may take a day or two — sometimes she's on a ridge in Arunachal with no signal, or sitting by the Umngot watching the light change. But she will write back. She always does.
